Students are picked up at the following Sioux Falls Elementary Schools:

  • John Harris
  • Rosa Parks
  • Harvey Dunn
  • Robert Frost
  • Cleveland
  • Terry Redlin

The Benefits of After School Programs

After school care offers numerous benefits to elementary children. Safety and structure are central to every LSS program. Additional benefits include increased academic performance and better scoring on standardized tests. After school care has been linked to an increase in school attendance and a decrease in dropout rate. During the school year, children generally demonstrate better behavior in the classroom too.

Student in an after school program get more physical activity. LSS programs focus on getting kids moving and encouraging healthy eating habits. Structured programs also reduce risky behaviors like drug and alcohol use and other criminal activities.

Finally, after school programs have an enormous economic impact. Parents concerned about their children’s after school activities miss an average of eight days of work per year. According to Brandeis University in Massachusetts, the resulting loss of worker productivity costs businesses up to $300 billion annually.

Combining Academics with Culture and Recreation

LSS After-School Programs combine academic enrichment with cultural and recreational activities that children enjoy. They experience new things, improve their confidence, expand their creativity and grow emotionally and socially.

Children are involved in the planning and organization of daily activities. This participation helps develop leadership skills in elementary children and ensures that programming is both educational and fun. LSS believes that children learn by making choices. Children have the opportunity to select from several different activities. Some of them include:

  • homework with staff support
  • community service
  • math & reading enrichment
  • character education
  • team building exercises
  • arts & crafts projects
  • board & computer games
  • physical recreation
