Children who have been adopted carry unique histories and identities. Parenting an adopted child is immensely rewarding, but it can also be especially challenging. That’s why we work to connect your family with comprehensive support after welcoming a child into your home.

Post-Adoption Services focus on what happens after the adoption is finalized. It’s about helping families and children across the state maintain a healthy home and ensuring they have a support system when they face challenges.

 

Our services help you connect with other adoptive families, creating a supportive community where experiences and friendships can be shared. To support families across the state in maintaining strong, healthy relationships, we offer:

  • Individualized case management
  • Support groups with guided discussions
  • Adoption-competent therapy referrals
  • Professional training and education
  • Workshops and day camps

Post-Adoption Services

Adoption is a lifelong journey, and challenges can arise along the way. To provide support for families at any stage of the adoption process, we provide Post-Adoption Services, funded by the South Dakota Department of Social Services.

  • Participants can expect guided discussions on topics like identity exploration, family dynamics, and accessing community resources such as trauma-informed therapy.

  • “Please trust in the process. Believe in the process,” Megan urged. “There will be breathing space but try not to disappear because they (the adoptive family) needs you just as much as you need them.”
