LSS Honors First President, Bertha Bragstad

As part of the LSS Centennial Celebration, the conference room at our East 41st Street location has been named the Bragstad Room in honor of Bertha Bragstad, the first President of LSS who served from 1920 to 1948.

Bragstad has been described over the years as a gentle, motherly person, soft-spoken and compassionate; but she could also be very firm. Above all, she saw her life’s role to be a servant in God’s Kingdom, one who freely gave of herself for the sake of others—characteristics shared by today’s LSS caregivers.

The room has been commemorated with a canvas print of Bertha Bragstad’s portrait, as well as a variety of historical records documenting her time helping women and children at LSS.
