After-School & Summer Programs
Lutheran Social Services of South Dakota After-School & Summer Programs provide a safe and supervised environment for elementary children in the hours after school. The programs combine academic enrichment with cultural and recreational activities that children enjoy.
Children who participate in after-school programs improve their academic skills, score better on standardized tests and have higher reading scores. They experience new things, improve their confidence, expand their creativity and grow emotionally and socially.
After-school hours are a critical time for children. They can be either an opportunity to learn and grow or a time of risk. The after-school hours are the peak time for juvenile crime and risky behaviors such as alcohol and drug use. Most experts agree that after-school programs offer a healthy and positive alternative.
LSS After-School & Summer Programs are open to children in kindergarten through fifth grade, Monday through Friday, from the time school is dismissed until 6 p.m. The program is open from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. on some days that school is closed.
Staff at LSS After-School & Summer Programs are high quality professionals with education and experience in early childhood development and elementary education. Staff is provided with consistent ongoing training. LSS After-School and Summer Programs are accredited by the Council on Accreditation for Children and Family Services and are licensed by the state of South Dakota.
